Merry Christmas vs. Happy Holidays

A lot of people try to be "politically correct", during the holiday season. I grew up Lutheran (Christian). I love to decorate for Christmas. My husband and daughter are Christians. (Yes my three year old daughter is Christian. She has already chosen that faith over the others that she has experienced. I am okay with her decision.) I am not Christian, anymore. I do not believe that anyone is wrong for their beliefs, no matter what they are. It is our beliefs in life who makes us who we are. I know from the studies I have done (over the years) that many religions are based on one true god. (Generally, it really is the same God with different names...But no one wants to believe this.) I have no problem with telling someone Merry Christmas or Happy Chanukah (Hanukkah) or Happy Winter Solstice...Or what ever their personal beliefs are. I have recently discovered that my great-grandparents (Gruber) were Jewish and converted to Catholic. I had a great-great-grandmother that was Haitian. I have Cherokee & Choctaw in my family history. I have Austrian, Irish (which is the easiest to see in me), Romanian (Gypsy), German, Scottish, and I am still researching. The Irish side were Celtic and Celtic Christians. I am researching different religions to see what I am most drawn to. I tell people "Happy Holidays", not to be politically correct, but because I do not have a chosen religion. I tell people "Merry Christmas", because it is their belief or because they said it first. I do respect everyone for who they are. I was raised that you open Christmas presents on Christmas Eve, so as to not take away from the true meaning of Christmas. I still follow that tradition, out of respect for my parents and those that do believe in Christ as their savior. Even though it is not my chosen religion, I believe that it is wrong to take away from the true meaning of the holiday (holy day). I do have to admit that there is just one present from Santa for Elisabeta. She is only three and everyone has her believing that Santa will bring her something if she is good. They have also told her that he brings presents Christmas Eve night. Yes, she understands that means that if she is good there will be a present for her Christmas morning from Santa Claus. She explained that to me. (She is only three years old.) So, she has one present for Christmas morning. I am thinking of asking Kelly's parents if they would like to take Elisabeta to church with them on Christmas. Elisabeta carries around a Daily Devotional. This is "Ellie's book" and she tries to read it. She will read off certain letters, that she knows. She says that "Ellie's book" makes her feel good and happy. So she carries it. She likes to attend church with Kelly's parents. I love Kelly, Elisabeta, Mom (Louise), Monica (my bio-logical mother), Trevor (my older brother), Daniel (my younger brother by the same dad), James (my younger brother), Tim (my youngest brother), Sandy (Kelly's mom), Mike (Kelly's father), and everyone else in our families and our friends.
Merry Christmas! Happy Chanukah! Happy Holidays!
I love you all!
Natalie

ps. On Monica's, Daniel's, Mike's, and Natalie's you have to click on each of the letters for all of the links. I was going by what was the first thing I thought of (each person) for the links. Some people are just too complex for a single first thought.

The best movie I have ever seen!

This is really the best movie I have ever seen. I am not normally a movie jumper...I don't normally jump at movie scenes (in the theater). I jumped at least twice. I screamed. (I don't normally do this either.) I cried. I Knew how the movie ended going into the theater. (It is based on the 1933 version of King Kong.) Andy Serkis (and everyone else involved) made Kong real. He seemed so real. Peter Jackson's life long dream was to make this movie, and it shows. Living the theater, you understand his passion for this movie. If this movie does not win many awards, then all of the award people were paid extremely well not to choose it. This is the most amazing movie. I felt like I was there in New York and on Skull Island. If I had to describe this movie in one word, it would be "WOW!".

Something you don't know about me...

***I love to listen to NPR. When I was homeless, people (in the churches we stayed) were completely dumbfounded at that fact. I had a Hello Kitty (shower) radio (that I hung from my cot) that I would listen to NPR. When they held conversations with me, they were surprised that I was so well versed and loved to read, novels. They (like a lot of people) thought that all homeless people were uneducated, and they never listened to anything like NPR. I made a friend, who came into the program two weeks after I did, Marissa. She and I had a lot of things in common. We both would listen to NPR. We both loved to read. We are both smart. We both had family that didn't (really) care, was just too far away, or we lost touch with. We even had similar childhoods. We both had a two year old to care for and no home. My two year old was a girl, and her two year was a boy. (They became best-friends, and they even went to the same day-care.) She was pregnant, with a girl. That was the big difference between us. If it was not for her friendship I don't know if I could have made it through that time. We both even moved into homes within two weeks of each other. (I miss her.) We were both treated differently from the others. We were different from the others. (Now that I think about it.) This time last year, we were homeless. We worried about our children's Christmas. We worried about finding homes in time. (In the program, that we were in, there is a 90 day time limit. This may sound mean, but it is necessary. There are people that will take advantage of anyone. I met people like that. They truly try to help the people that are trying to help (and better) themselves.)
***I edit almost everything I read. This is just a natural thing for me. I have actually been trying to break myself of it. When I am on an instant messenger, I go nuts. I can not edit everything and keep up in the conversation.
***I spell check all of the time. If you ever get anything from me not spell checked (or edited), I was falling asleep or helping Elle.
***I wear glasses to read.
***I love hot showers, but I don't like hot weather. I love cool and cold weather.
***I need it to be cold to sleep. Then I have layers of blankets I sleep under. Well, lately I have a sheet, two blankets, and a comforter. Oh yes, Kelly added another comforter. I have to sleep with my feet hanging out of the bed. That second comforter was too much.
***I am a night person and have always been. Don't take me wrong. I think that the daytime is lovely. I just have a hard time sleeping at night. I have even tried to change my sleep routine. It just naturally goes back. I have people mad at me because I am awake at night and sleep during the day. Please keep in mind that I wake up with my daughter. I do not sleep all day. I am up around 11:00 or earlier.
***I love historical romances. These writers really do study history to write the stories. Yes, the romance part is nice. I like learning about new places and times. I am drawn to the historical romances for that reason. I like all kinds of romances and thriller novels.
***My favorite authors are Deborah Simmons and Nora Roberts. I like a lot of different authors, but those two are my favorite.
***I love (and collect) princess and mythological Barbies (and other dolls.)
***I love dragonflies. They are beautiful creatures, with an amazing purpose.
***I am bad with words. (I may good at editing other people, but bad with words.) I can not explain things to save my life.
***I have to use a cane sometimes to walk. I have arthritis, and I have had it my whole life.
***I hate to cook, but love cooking. I don't like having to cook. Sometimes, I get into a mood where I want to cook. When I am in this mood, I generally want to cook a lot and love cooking.
***There are very few alcoholic beverages I like. Most of them taste bad to me. I like Raspberry Mead.
***I have a strong desire to paint (again)...own the tools...too scared to actually do it.
***I eat cheese with yellow mustard and pickles with sea salt.
***My favorite colors are Dark (Forest) Green and Purple, especially Lavender.
***I have always tried to design my kitchen in Cobalt Blue, White, Black, and Silver. I would design my bathroom in Dark Green and Burgundy. (Well, at least when I was single. Now my kitchen is [mostly] White, and my bathroom is Rose and Cream.)
***I keep watching movies off of the movie junkie list. I want to watch more movies that my friends have watched. This is mostly due to the fact that I want to know what they are talking about. (So the list number [below] will keep growing.)

office party (sent from a friend)

Subject: OFFICE HOLIDAY PARTY

FROM: Pauline Lewis, Human Resources Director

TO: All Employees

DATE: 4th November

RE: Christmas Party

I'm happy to inform you that the company Christmas Party will take place on December 23rd, starting at noon in the private function room at the Grill House. There will be a cash bar and plenty of drinks! We'll have a small band playing traditional carols...please feel free to sing along. And don't be surprised if the Managing Director shows up dressed as Santa Claus! A Christmas tree will be lit at 1.00p.m. Exchange of gifts among employees can be done at that time; however, no gift should be over $10.00 to make the giving of gifts easy for everyone's pockets. This gathering is only for employees! The Managing Director will make a special announcement at the Party. Merry Christmas to you and your Family.

Pauline

RE: Holiday Party

In no way was yesterday's memo intended to exclude our Jewish employees. We recognize that Chanukah is an important holiday, which often coincides with Christmas, though unfortunately not this year. However, from now on we're calling it our 'Holiday Party'.. The same policy applies to any other employees who are not Christians. There will be no Christmas tree or Christmas carols sung. We will have other types of music for your enjoyment. Happy now?

Happy Holidays to you and your family,

Pauline.

RE: Holiday Party

Regarding the note I received from a member of Alcoholics Anonymous requesting a non-drinking table...you didn't sign your name. I'm happy to accommodate this request, but if I put a sign on a table that reads, "AA Only", you wouldn't be anonymous anymore!!!! How am I supposed to handle this? Somebody? Forget about the gift exchange, no gift exchange allowed now since the Union Officials feel that $10.00 is too much money and Management believes $10.00 is a little cheap.

NO GIFT EXCHANGE WILL BE ALLOWED.

Pauline.

RE: Holiday Party

What a diverse group we are! I had no idea that December 20th begins the Muslim holy month of Ramadan, which forbids eating and drinking during daylight hours. There goes the party! Seriously, we can appreciate how a luncheon at this time of year does not accommodate our Muslim employees' beliefs, perhaps the Grill House can hold off on serving your meal until the end of the party - or else package everything up for you to take home in a little foil doggy bag. Will that work? Meanwhile, I've arranged for members of Weight Watchers to sit farthest from the dessert buffet and pregnant women will get the table closest to the toilets, Gays are allowed to sit with each other, Lesbians do not have to sit with gay men, each will have their own table. Yes, there will be flower arrangements for the gay men's table, too. To the person asking permission to cross dress - no cross dressing allowed.

We will have booster seats for short people. Low fat food will be available for those on a diet. We cannot control the salt used in the food. We suggest those people with high blood pressure taste the food first. There will be fresh fruits as dessert for Diabetics, the restaurant cannot supply "No Sugar" desserts. Sorry!

Did I miss anything?!?!?!?!?!

RE: The ******** Holiday Party.

Vegetarian pricks I've had it with you people!!! We're going to keep this party at the Grill House whether you like it or not, so you can sit quietly at the table furthest from the "grill of death", as you so quaintly put it. You'll get your f****** salad bar, including organic tomatoes, but you know tomatoes have feeling, too. They scream when you slice them. I've heard them scream. I'm hearing them scream right NOW!!

Hope you all have a rotten holiday * drink, drive, and die!

The Bitch from HELL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

RE: Pauline Lewis and Holiday Party

I'm sure I speak for all of us in wishing Pauline Lewis a speedy recovery, and I'll continue to forward your cards to her. In the meantime, Management has decided to cancel our Holiday Party and instead, give everyone the afternoon of the 23rd December off with full pay.

what would you do?

You are driving down the road in your car on a wild, stormy night, when you pass by a bus stop and you see three people waiting for the bus:
1. An old lady who looks as if she is about to die.
2. An old friend who once saved your life.
3. The perfect partner you have been dreaming about.
Which one would you choose to offer a ride to, knowing that there could only be one passenger in your small car?
Think before you continue reading.
This is a moral/ethical dilemma that was once actually used as part of a job application.
You could pick up the old lady, because she is going to die, and thus you should save her first.
Or you could take the old friend because he once saved your life and this would be the perfect chance to pay him back.
However, you may never be able to find your perfect mate again..........?
The candidate who was hired (out of 200 applicants) had no trouble coming up with his answer. He simply answered, "I would give the car keys to my old friend and let him take the lady to the hospital. I would stay behind and wait for the bus with the partner of my dreams."
Sometimes, we gain more if we are able to give up our stubborn thought limitations.
Never forget to "Think Outside the Box."
HOWEVER...., the correct answer is to run the old lady over and put her out of her misery, have sex with the perfect partner on the hood of the car, then drive off with the old friend for a few beers!!!!
God, I just love happy endings.

I just copied what a friend sent me...don't think that I am that mean.

It's a girl

‘Alias’ star Jennifer Garner gave birth to a baby girl Wednesday night, according to US Weekly. The 33-year-old actress and her husband, actor Ben Affleck, reportedly plan to name their daughter Violet.

Garner, whose due date was December 8, reportedly had the baby after labor was induced. According to a US Weekly source, Affleck, 33, attended the birth.

How old is Grandma???

Stay with this -- the answer is at the end. It will blow you away.

One evening a grandson was talking to his grandmother about current events. The grandson asked his grandmother what she thought about the shootings at schools, the computer age, and just things in general.

The Grandma replied, "Well, let me think a minute, I was born before:
* television
* penicillin
* polio shots
* frozen foods
* Xerox
* contact lenses
* Frisbees and
* the pill

There was no:
* radar
* credit cards
* laser beams or
* ball-point pens

Man had not invented:
* pantyhose
* air conditioners
* dishwashers
* clothes dryers
* and the clothes were hung out to dry in the fresh air and
* man hadn't yet walked on the moon

Your Grandfather and I got married first, . . . and then lived together. Every family had a father and a mother. Until I was 25, I called every man older than me, "Sir". And after I turned 25, I still called policemen and every man with a title, "Sir." We were before gay-rights, computer- dating, dual careers, daycare centers, and group therapy. Our lives were governed by the Ten Commandments, good judgment, and common sense. We were taught to know the difference between right and wrong and to stand up and take responsibility for our actions. Serving your country was a privilege; living in this country was a bigger privilege. We thought fast food was what people ate during Lent. Having a meaningful relationship meant getting along with your cousins. Draft dodgers were people ! who closed their front doors when the evening breeze started. Time-sharing meant time the family spent together in the evenings and weekends-not purchasing condominiums. We never heard of FM radios, tape decks, CDs, electric typewriters, yogurt, or guys wearing earrings. We listened to the Big Bands, Jack Benny, and the President's speeches on our radios. And I don't ever remember any kid blowing his brains out listening to Tommy Dorsey. If you saw anything with 'Made in Japan ' on it, it was junk. The term 'making out' referred to how you did on your school exam. Pizza Hut, McDonald's, and instant coffee were unheard of. We had 5 &10-cent stores where you could actually buy things for 5 and 10 cents. Ice-cream cones, phone calls, rides on a streetcar, and a Pepsi were all a nickel. And if you didn't want to splurge, you could spend your nickel on enough stamps to mail 1 letter and 2 postcards. You could buy a new Chevy Coupe for $600, . . . but who could afford one? Too bad, because gas was 11 cents a gallon.

In my day:
* "grass" was mowed,
* "coke" was a cold drink,
* "pot" was something your mother cooked in and
* "rock music" was your grandmother's lullaby.
* "Aids" were helpers in the Principal's office,
* " chip" meant a piece of wood,
* "hardware" was found in a hardware store and
* "software" wasn't even a word.

And we were the last generation to actually believe that a lady needed a husband to have a baby. No wonder people call us "old and confused" and say there is a generation gap... and how old do you think I am?

I bet you have this old lady in mind...you are in for a shock! Read on to see -- pretty scary if you think about it and pretty sad at the same time.

This Woman would be only 58 years old!

When I read this I was thinking that the lady was about 60 years old...my sister's age.
