A Wharton woman known for her affable personality and love of animals has been killed in a tragic accident.

Amber Rachelle Hensarling, 24, died Saturday in a motorcycle accident in Lafayette, La.

Family members said she was just one year away from achieving a life-long goal of becoming a veterinarian.

“It was always been her dream,” said her sister, Alicia Mouser.

A life-long resident of Wharton, Hensarling was visiting friends in Louisiana this past weekend. She was riding on the back of a Harley-Davidson around 3 p.m. Saturday on U.S. Route 90, near Lafayette.

According to family members and news reports, the driver of the motorcycle switched lanes and Hensarling fell off. She was struck by a vehicle driving behind the cycle.

Hensarling’s death has been devastating to both family and friends. A 1999 graduate of Wharton High School, she is remembered as a talented, driven individual who excelled in studies and in cheerleading.

Fellow cheerleader Kathylee Barbee says Hensarling was a “positive” person who “had a lot going for her.”

“I was in disbelief and shock” to learn of the accident, Barbee said.
“I miss her and wish she was still here.”

Hensarling was born in Wharton on Aug. 31, 1981 to Mark Hensarling and Diana Sprta Hensarling. After graduating from Wharton High School, she obtained a bachelor’s and master’s degree from Texas A&M before enrolling in the veterinary program. She was expected to graduate in 2007.

Her sister, Alicia Mouser, says Hensarling was outgoing and never met a stranger.

“She has more friends than I think there are in the world,” Mouser said.

“She loved life.”
